BBI: Russian billionaires lose $26 bln in January–September

MOSCOW, Oct 1 (PRIME) -- The combined wealth of Russia’s billionaires decreased by U.S. $26 billion in January–September, as seen by PRIME in data of the Bloomberg Billionaires Index (BBI) on Thursday.

The index is calculated basing on capitalization and financial reports of companies owned by the businessmen, or on capitalization to earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) ratio and or a share price to earnings per share ratio. The rating comprises 500 wealthiest people of the world, including 24 Russians.

Vladimir Potanin, one of the core owners of metals giant Norilsk Nickel, was ranked number one among the richest Russians with his fortune falling by $2.95 billion in January–September to $25.1 billion.

Vladimir Lisin, the main beneficiary owner of steel producer Novolipetsk Steel (NLMK), was second with his fortune decreasing by $1.17 billion to $20.2 billion.

CEO of independent gas producer Novatek Leonid Mikhelson descended to the third position with an $19.3 billion wealth, which has shrunk by $5.25 billion since the beginning of the year.

Core owner of steelmaker Severstal Alexei Mordashov and Alisher Usmanov, owner of metals holding Metalloinvest and mobile operator MegaFon, were ranked fourth and fifth, respectively, with a wealth of $18.3 billion each.

The wealth of oil major Lukoil’s co-owner Vagit Alekperov shrank by $7.17 billion in the period to $15.1 billion putting him on the eighth place.
